School is out—but don’t panic! From fun-in-the-sun activities to mommy-and-me fitness classes, there are tons of ways to keep your kids occupied this summer.  Just because their school schedule is slowing down, now is not the time to start hitting snooze. 

The secret to scholastic success in the upcoming school year?  Get them moving this summer!  Yes, that’s right— exercise is key to improved cognitive function and overall performance in school.  Being active with your kids not only sets a great example for their health, but will also help them in the upcoming school year.  (Take that summer reading list!)

Red, White & Blue Smoothie

There is no better way enjoy a celebration than with festive food. The 4th of July is the perfect holiday to get crafty with your meals and snacks. Next month, try this simple 3-step smoothie recipe for a nutritious treat that you and your family will love:

For each layer, you’ll need:

  1. Red: a handful of frozen strawberries, 1 banana and ½ cup coconut water
  2. White: 1 frozen banana, 1 fresh banana, 1 date, ½ cup coconut water and a dash of cinnamon
  3. Blue: a handful of frozen blueberries and 1 banana

Blend ingredients for each color individually, rinsing in between layers. Pour into a classy glass and garnish with all the berries you desire (the kids will love this part) and drink up. Cheers!
